DURBAN – The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is praising the actions of an unknown male who bravely rescued two children caught in dangerous currents at Casuarina Beach in La Mercy on Sunday, 10 March.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:45 am when an eyewitness alerted the NSRI Ballito station that two young swimmers were in distress. An NSRI crew, which was conducting routine training exercises nearby, was swiftly diverted to the scene. A rescue jet ski and the NSRI rescue craft JetRib JayTee 3 were deployed.

Upon arrival, the rescue team found the children had already been brought to safety by a Good Samaritan. According to eyewitness reports, the unidentified man entered the water and brought both children back to shore, reuniting them with their adult minder. Thankfully, the children were unharmed.

The NSRI crew returned to their base and commended the Good Samaritan for his swift and selfless actions, which they believed saved the children’s lives. They have also expressed their gratitude to the launch team at Salmon Bay for their assistance in deploying the rescue craft.
