Overstrand Municipality has taken a major step toward safeguarding water and wastewater services from the disruptive effects of load shedding. As of February 2024, 11 new backup generators are now operating at critical facilities.
These generators were strategically installed at locations including Mosselrivier SPS, Hermanus Wastewater Treatment Works, Kleinmond Tennis Court SPS, Kleinmond Palmiet Raw Water Booster PS, Kleinmond WTW, Gansbaai WWTW, Pearly Beach WTW, De Kelders Klipgat Spring, De Kelders WTW, Kraaibosch Dam Raw Water PS, Stanford Production Borehole and Baardskeerdersbos WTW.
The project, a combined effort between Overstrand Municipality and the Western Cape Government’s Emergency Municipal Load-shedding Relief Grant, amounted to a total cost of R11 826 362.26.
This investment is a crucial measure in ensuring the continuity of essential water and wastewater services to residents, even during periods of load shedding. With these generators in place, the municipality can mitigate the adverse impacts of power outages and maintain a reliable supply of these vital resources.
