Michael Hawthorne

LIMPOPO – A 74-year-old German tourist has been brutally murdered in a horrific attack in Limpopo, South Africa. Three suspects, aged between 24 and 46, have been arrested in connection with the murder.

According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, police spokesperson, the victim departed from Botswana on Friday and drove into South Africa. He arrived in Lephalale (Ellisras) on Saturday morning and picked up a hitchhiker along the way.

The two men established a friendly rapport, and the tourist even asked the man to drive his car. At a liquor store, the suspect informed his two accomplices that the elderly man was expecting a significant amount of money from his family overseas.

The suspect and his accomplices drove the unsuspecting man to his house, where they tied him up and assaulted him while demanding his bank card PIN. They robbed him of an undisclosed amount of cash and other valuables.

The three suspects removed the car’s number plates and drove the victim to a remote dirt road in Northam, Limpopo. They dragged him out of the vehicle and abandoned him in the bushes.

Security officers spotted a suspicious car without number plates and stopped to investigate. They noticed bloodstains on the suspect’s T-shirt and alerted the police.

The victim’s body was found in the bushes. Two suspects had fled the scene but were apprehended later that evening in the North West province, in possession of the victim’s belongings.

Lt Gen Thembi Hadebe, the provincial police commissioner in Limpopo, stated that the victim had trusted a ruthless criminal who turned against him, torturing and murdering him with his accomplices. The police will work tirelessly to ensure that the perpetrators receive lengthy prison sentences.

The three suspects, all foreign nationals, are expected to appear in the Northam Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing various charges, including murder.
