CAPE TOWN – A blue Sym Fiddle scooter, registration number CAA 527832, was stolen by two suspects in a brazen daylight theft on Friday afternoon at Saunders Beach. The theft was captured on CCTV footage.
The scooter’s owner, Rudolph du Toit, had been enjoying a regular swim and returned 20 minutes later to discover his scooter missing. Du Toit reviewed private security footage which showed a thief calmly approach the scooter, push it down the road to an awaiting accomplice, and ride off. The accomplice was waiting on a motorbike, which then towed the stolen scooter away.
Du Toit believes the thieves likely observed him and planned the theft, taking advantage of his habit of not locking his scooter during his short swims. It is also suspected the thieves have ties nearby as it would be conspicuous to travel far with a towed scooter.
