CAPE TOWN – Dorene Harrison, 49, was sentenced to fifteen (15) years of direct imprisonment by the Cape Town Regional Court on 20 February. Harrison was found guilty on 16 counts of fraud.
The Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation unit investigated the case. Harrison, a former administrator in the operations centre at Nedbank Investment Management in Cape Town, worked with internal Nedbank suspense accounts.
Between May 26, 2015, and November 2, 2015, Harrison illegally transferred funds from Nedbank’s general ledger account into a suspense account. She then proceeded to move a total of R5.3 million from the suspense account into personal accounts held at Standard Bank, ABSA, and FNB.
Major General Mathipa Makgato, the Hawks’ Provincial Head, praised the investigation team for securing a substantial sentence in this complex fraud case.
