Motorists using Merrydale Avenue in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, are warned to expect delays as major road resurfacing gets underway. The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate announced today, 19 February 2024, that the essential maintenance project will last until Monday, 18 March 2024.
Work crews will operate along Merrydale Avenue, between Highlands Drive and Morgenster Road, on weekdays from 09:00 until 15:30. Motorists are advised to factor in longer travel times or consider alternative routes if possible.
The project involves removing the old road surface and replacing it with a fresh asphalt layer. Damaged manholes, infrastructure, and road markings will also be either replaced or reinstated.
Councillor Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, emphasised the need for the roadworks: “In the interest of delivering services to the people, we are pleased to see this work being started in Lentegeur. This is maintenance work that aims to prolong the longevity of the roads in this area.”
The City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate thanks the public for their understanding and patience during this period.
