BELLVILLE – In a collaborative effort between the Hawks’ National Priority Violent Crime team based in Bellville and the National Intervention Unit, two wanted suspects have been traced and arrested in the Western Cape for the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition. The arrests were made on 31 January 2024, marking a significant breakthrough in the fight against violent crime in the region.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Tersius Booysen (32) and Shafieka Daniels (55), both with prior arrests for similar charges. Booysen was previously apprehended in 2018, while Daniels faced arrest in 2019. Despite initial court appearances and subsequent withdrawal of charges, warrants of arrest were issued against them, leading to their successful execution by the Hawks.

On 31 January 2024, both suspects made appearances at the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court. The court proceedings revealed that Booysen’s case has been postponed to 07 February 2024 for Legal Aid and bail application, while Daniels is set to appear before the Regional Court on 22 February 2024. Notably, Daniels was released on a warning.

Hawks Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, commended the collaborative efforts of the teams involved, highlighting the commitment to addressing violent crime and ensuring the safety of the community. The arrests serve as a testament to the persistence of law enforcement agencies in bringing those involved in illegal activities to justice.
