KHAYELITSHA – In a commendable display of vigilance, police officers attached to Lingelethu-West SAPS successfully thwarted a suspected stolen property operation during high-density patrols on Tuesday, 30 January 2024.
The operation unfolded when officers, conducting routine patrols, entered Siphiwe Street in Illitha Park at approximately 10:20. Alert to their surroundings, the officers observed a White Toyota Quantum unloading electrical appliances. Upon approaching the vehicle, two individuals attempted to evade the police, prompting a swift pursuit that resulted in the apprehension of both suspects.
As the officers questioned the minibus driver, their attention was drawn to another nearby vehicle loaded with electrical appliances. The driver of this vehicle hastily sped away, triggering a high-speed chase. Tenacious police efforts forced the driver to a halt, leading to the confiscation of a consignment of presumed stolen electrical appliances.
In total, five suspects, aged between 21 and 28, were detained on charges of possession of presumed stolen property. The apprehended individuals are slated to make a court appearance at the Khayelitsha Magistrate’s Court to face the aforementioned charges.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi, the spokesperson for Western Cape SAPS, lauded the observant officers for their quick response and dedication to curbing criminal activities. The successful operation stands as a testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
