CAPE TOWN – The CoCT’s Water and Sanitation Directorate has announced planned water supply maintenance that will result in disruptions for various areas from 29 January to 1 February 2024. The maintenance work is crucial for enhancing the water supply infrastructure to benefit customers.
The planned maintenance includes zero-pressure tests (ZPT) and conditional assessments in specific areas, aimed at ensuring the efficient operation of pressure-reducing valves (PRVs) and reducing water wastage. Residents in affected areas are encouraged to take note of the schedule and make necessary preparations.
Maintenance Schedule:
- Monday, 29 January 2024 (10:00 – 15:00): Oakdale, Blommendal, Blomtuin, Eikenbosch, and Chrismar.
- Tuesday, 30 January 2024 (10:00 – 15:00): Dennemere, Blackheath residential and industrial areas, Austinville, Happy Valley, and more.
- Wednesday, 31 January 2024 (09:00 – 16:00): Somerset Ridge, Westridge, Audas Estate in Bizweni, Cherrywood Gardens, Roundhay, Lionviham, and Kalamunda.
- Thursday, 1 February 2024 (10:00 – 16:00): Penzance Estate, Berg-en-Dal, Hangberg, Hout Bay Heights, Hout Bay Harbour, Boatyard, and Harbour Road.
Pressure Management Installations and Operations: Zero-pressure testing and step-testing will be conducted to install pressure management technology. Residents may experience low water pressure or temporary water loss during testing, and fluctuations in pressure are expected.
Maintenance Work in Specific Areas:
- Strand (30 January 2024, 10:00 – 17:00): Main water supply shut off for water meter installation.
- Oakdale, Blommendal, Blomtuin, Eikenbosch, Chrismar (31 January 2024, 10:00 – 15:00): Intermittent water supply disruptions for valve installation.
- Camps Bay (1 February 2024, 09:00 – 17:00): Test shut-off for pipeline assessment in preparation for Pipe Track water leak repairs.
Residents’ Preparation Tips:
- Store enough water in clean, sealed containers.
- Keep taps closed to prevent water loss and damage when supply is restored.
CoCT assures residents that the maintenance work is strategically planned to minimize disruption, and updates can be followed on the @CityofCTAlerts X account.
