In a rapid mobilization effort, Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) and NCC Wildfires teams have responded to a concerning fire along Tafelberg Road, as reported in a recent Facebook post by Love Cape Town. The Newlands and Kloofnek crews, supported by three Huey helicopters and a spotter plane, are actively engaged in combating the wildfire to ensure the safety of the community and protect the iconic Table Mountain.

The urgency of the situation has prompted the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway team to initiate the evacuation of guests as a precautionary measure. Tafelberg Road is currently closed, causing disruptions to normal traffic flow in the vicinity.

Hikers exploring areas near the Platteklip Gorge trail and its surrounds are strongly urged to descend from the mountain promptly, prioritizing their safety in light of the ongoing firefighting efforts.

The deployment of three Huey helicopters and a spotter plane underscores the gravity of the situation, highlighting the collaborative efforts to control the blaze effectively. Aerial assets are crucial in managing wildfires and preventing their escalation.

As emergency response teams work diligently to bring the situation under control, the public must stay informed through official channels and follow any directives issued by authorities. The Table Mountain National Park and NCC Wildfire teams emphasize the importance of community cooperation and adherence to safety protocols during this critical period.

While the origin of the fire remains under investigation, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the unpredictable nature of wildfires and the vital role played by emergency responders.
